The church has memorial brass plaques with names of prominent planters inscribed on them. Thus the church stands on the top of the hills overlooking the Munnar town, with the history of the tea planters of Munnar. Amidst the cold and pleasant weather of this beautiful Munnar, this church stands next to a tomb which is a symbol of an everlasting love. It is believed that Eleanor Isabel and Henry Mansfield Knight who served in the tea plantations lived in Munnar. The couple loved this magical and beautiful Munnar that she playfully asked her husband to bury her body in Munnar on this hill top after her death. Sadly she fell ill and soon died at the age of 24. Her husband Henry Mansfied Knight buried her body to fulfil her wish. Thus came the first grave of this cemetery. The grave of Eleanor Isabel is also known as the Taj Mahal of Munnar.
Later by 1911, this CSI church was erected in the vicinity of the grave. The CSI Christ Church became the first church to be built after the cemetery. It is believed that this church being on the top of the hill served as a refugee camp for the millions of people of Munnar, when Munnar was hit with the worst ever floods in 1924. In 1981 when the Britishers left Munnar they handed over the Christ Church to CSI North Kerala diocese. The worship in the Church is held in English, Tamil, Malayalam. Thus the church is a historic site telling the story of the tea planters of Munnar.
The CSI Christ Church is open on all days of the week from 9AM to 5 PM
